Concealed Carry: Part II

If you haven't been following me, I talked about taking a Concealed Carry class yesterday. You can read about that HERE.

According to this class I should NOT be carrying a gun.

"Defending your life has legal and emotional consequences – you life will never be the same. Before carrying a firearm for self defense, make sure that in your mind you are willing and 
capable of using the firearm effectively."

I am not willingly able to use the firearm and I don't want to deal with the emotional consequences, so that does not make me a good candidate for a firearm carrier.

In Wisconsin gun safety training is not a requirement for owning a gun or open carry (not hiding you gun while out and about) it is only required for concealed carry (keeping your gun under your shirt or in your purse while out in public).

There is SO much responsibility to owning and carrying a firearm. I don't know how taking a class is not a requirement. We have to take classes and get a licence to drive a car because it is considered dangerous and you can harm other people, but not a gun.

I would highly recommend that you take a gun safety class, even if you don't want anything to do with guns. Education on how to safely use firearms and education about gun laws is beneficial for everyone. Wisconsin offers gun safety classes for free, check to see if your area does as well. If you do plan on owning a firearm, please, please, be a responsible owner and take a safety class!

Concealed Carry?

Today I am going to a Concealed Carry License (CCL) class.

This is not a class I would have ever thought myself to be taking.

bang! goes the gun.

Gun laws are a big topic for debate that I normally don't engage in. I'm not a huge fan of guns, I don't think I will ever own a gun, and I don't think I would be capable of shooting another human being even if it was to save my own life.

My family, on the other hand, is not a big fan of this choice. They believe in using guns to protect themselves and, my mother especially, doesn't like to hear that I would rather die than protect myself with a gun. 

And the thing is I do understand. I understand the fear of other people with guns and I understand the need  to feel safe to protect yourself and your loved ones. There are dangerous and crazy people in this world people in this world. Last week someone I knew was trying to kill her husband. It's natural to want to protect yourself from danger. 

I just don't think I could use a gun to do that. I have a hard enough time using the horn on my car when someone almost hits me because it sounds mean! How could I ever shoot somebody? 

I dislike guns and I the reason I do not want to use them is a personal choice. 

You may be asking me:

 "If you hate guns, Luna, why in the world are you taking a concealed carry licence class?"

Good question! The reason I am taking a concealed carry licence class today because....I AM A BIG HUGE NERD!!

Nerd Alert

That's right. I am such a big nerd that I was jealous my family was learning something new without me! I couldn't stand the fact that they were going without me! They would have gone and come back and been all excited and talking about it and I would be left out! 

I let them know I would attend the class, but it does not mean I changed my mind about guns. I still won't use one.

I will know how to properly handle, use, and carry a gun, even if I never do a thing with it. And this makes me strangely happy. (gosh, I really am a nerd)
